Message: Congratulations for bringing Myanmar Sayadaws' talks to the Internet. I will set up a link to you page from ours in due course. May I suggest the correct Spellings?
eDhamma: Thank you very much. Congratulations for running an excellent web site http://www.nibbana.com, with a vast collection of articles on Theravada Buddhism. We will be setting up a link to your site.

Message: Sadhu! Sadhu! Sadhu! I am so grateful to see this site and thank you very much for making it happen. This is a great foundation for all Theravada Buddhists to listen to Dhamma anytime and anywhere all over the world. I will ask our webmaster to link up our site with this if you have no objections. May I suggest a new name since "eDhamma" does not sounds good to Burmese ears? How about "Online-Dhamma"?
eDhamma: Thanks for your advice. It's nice to have a network of Theravada web sites. We admire your organization very much. We would like to carry Venerable Sayadaw U Silanandabhivamsa's tapes.

Message: The best part of edhamma is that the tape quality (on the hour-long ram files) is superb and digitally clean. It is not an easy task for you and team members, since it takes time and patience to review numerous tapes (with respect to subject, quality, quantity, time length, arrangement, etc.) before you select, digitize and present them (with accompanying graphics and text) on your site. How are you going to administer (e.g. store, arrange and archive) them efficiently and with ease? There are websites which promote business, investment, e-commerce, ... for their own good instead of dana (the spirit of giving). Your website believes in the great and true SHARING (DHAMMA DANA). We appreciate the deed done and the treasure you present on your site.
eDhamma: Thanks for your kind words and suggestions. We started off with 3 audio engineers. Soon, there'll be 5 or more audio engineers to take care of the digitizing and cleaning (ensuring a high signal-to-noise ratio). To enhance and maintain this website, we need more volunteers (willing to spend long nights and weekends) for the propagation of sasana. A reader reminded us that Jan 2, 2001 is the second anniversary of the demise of your paternal grandmother Daw Khin Myo Chit, a prolific writer and a life-long practitioner of vipassana meditation. May she and other proponents of sasana get our merits.

Message: This site is the one I really like to hear Dhamma every morning from my work. Thank you so much. I would like to listen more Dhamma of Amarapura Mahagandaryon Sayadaw Ashin Janakabhivarmsa's Patthana Dhamma. Please post the rest of the Sayadaw Patthana Dhamma series. I would like to know more about your home page too. If you need to help to set up or maintain your home page, I would like to give my service to you too. I really enjoy doing this kind of help for you.
eDhamma: Mahagandayone Sayadaw was a prolific writer, outstanding educator and an eloquent Dhamma lecturer. His exposition on the Patthana Dhamma covers 19 audio tapes. We will try to post the rest of the tapes as resources become available. We appreciate your offer. It is learnt that several of Sayadaw's works will be archived by his devotees in MP3 format. Please see the FAQ section on how you could help us.

Message: Very good! Though I haven't finished listing all the tapes, I can predict this site is going to be popular among those Buddhist Burmese who are very religious. Quality on sound is not bad at all. I'm very pleased with what you have done. Keep up with your good work.
eDhamma: Most of the dhamma talks posted on our web site have reasonably good sound quality. It takes time and patience to convert the audio tapes into "Real Player" player form while keeping S/N (signal to noise ratio) high. We will try to redo a few tapes for better quality before posting new tapes. Thanks for your kind words.

Message: 1. I wish to congratulate you all for making a reality of that came to my mind in early 1999. 2. May I query about what are the principal, original cost breakdowns (hardware, software, artworks, etc., and the recurring annual maintenance expenses (estimates of round figures in US Dollars)? 3. I wish to know the financial implications/resources that needs to be considered first. If I decide to go ahead and have my an independent internet, will you people help me? 4. May I know how and where you people are converting the magnetic audio-tape recording into digital audio recordings (Magnetic-tape and/or CD)? Thanks for your time and congratulations again for your valuable, noble work.
eDhamma: You mean your own web site? Please see FAQ. Thank you too. Presently, we are overwhelmed with our own stuff. We need sponsors and volunteers for our projects.

Message: I am very grateful to your Dhamma Dana. I often listen to dhamma tapes. Especially, I always listen to Mogok Sayadawgi's tapes. I would like to encourage to you to listen to Sayadawgyi's preachings. His dhamma talks are the same as Buddha and himself was Yahan Dar (arahant).
eDhamma: Dhamma Dana is the best form of dana. We try our best to post as many tapes as possible. It is really resource hungry though. Right now, we are using ISPs. It [currently] costs $191 per year for hosting one web site capable of holding 20 to 25 dhamma talks [with an average duration of one hour] in "Real Player" format. There are three possibilities: (a) maintain one web site and use a cyclic scheme [based on the readers' requests] to serve 20 to 25 tapes. The popular tapes will continue to be posted, while the less popular ones will be archived. (b) maintain several [transparent] web sites all reachable from eDhamma. This will add operation and maintaining costs but also a wider collection of dhamma talks. (c) have our own server with proper back-up and maintainence. This is our long-term goal, but we need dedicated volunteers to run the operations.

Message: It is really cool. There would be nice to have download site for every dhamma talks with MP3 format. Because we have poor connection to internet connection. If I could download these, we could listen whenever I want. I am a student from Bangkok. I have only 2 hrs. internet access in every connection with very slow rate due to Thailand internet connection - may be school - is not so good. And also in our school, there are 66 lines to connect to school server for 1500 students. To get a connection is really difficult for students. In the day time there is usually congestion problem. I could listen them for only in 2:00am to 4:00am. I know how difficult to get space in net. Anyway, thanks for your kindly response. Something is better than nothing.
eDhamma: See FAQ on why we chose "Real Player" for the initial project. We may offer MP3 in the future. We will let you know then.

Message: I got the web site address from my daughter in Thailand. Thank you very much for making the Dhamma tapes available on the internet and for free. That is very thoughtful of you.
eDhamma: Please let your dhamma friends know about our projects. Since we respect intellectual property, we have asked permission from the Sayadaws and/or their chief disciples to use their dhamma talks on our web site.

Message: The eDhamma web site looks great. I will listen to the tapes as part of my Burmese studies even though I can't understand them now. I want to put a clip of Burmese music on a web site but I don't know how to get from the cassette tape to the RealPlayer stage. Could you tell me briefly what I need to do or refer me to a web site that has this information. I appreciate your help.
eDhamma: Thanks. We will also have a section for Dhamma tapes in English. FYI, some dhamma talks (e.g. Mahasi Sayadaw's discourses) are available in both Burmese and English. Morever, they are available as pamphlets or book form. They can help you in your Burmese studies.
Friday, December 08, 2000; U Khin Maung Oo; California
Message: I've found that the sound is not so clear due to the suppression of noises. I want to advise to remove only the most essential ones. Let it be as natural as possible as long as it do not disturb the dhamma. You spread the Dhamma in Burmese to the whole world. I really appreciate your effort and generosity for the Burmese peoples. I hope the Burmese will realize the value of Burmese language in time and I want to see the future generations will also be benefited by your holy effort.
eDhamma: Thanks for your advice. We appreciate your concern and feedback. They will help improve our service. We will revisit each tape and rework if necessary.

Message: Dear eDhamma Team, Wonderful team create a excellent web for all Burmese & others. I will share about your web site all east coast area people. I got information about your web site from Saya U Hla Min. I am living in New Jersey and working in New York. Tell us detail requirements.
eDhamma: Thanks for your offer to let the people in the East Coast know about our website. It's a truly team effort. We need sponsors and volunteers to enhance and maintain the website. We hope you and others can join the eDhamma team. We already have donations to post 60 dhamma tapes for a year. With three audio engineers [all with their day-time jobs] spending long nights and weekends, we were able to process 40 dhamma tapes [with reasonably good quality] and post them on our website. We need more audio engineers to digitize the remaining tapes in our library collection. One sponsor has pledged 500 tapes. Others have pledged to lend rare tapes of eminent Sayadaws. That's a lot of work for us. With moral and spiritual support coming from various parts of the globe, we feel encouraged and committed to the propagation of sasana.
Thu, 28 Dec 2000; Ma San Yu Hlaing; New Jersey
Message: Thanks, I've browsed your website, and it is really good. I did not get a chance to take a look when you sent initially. When Saya U Hla Min sent the URL again, I got a chance to read. We try to share with all others here.
eDhamma: The web site began with a few tapes and virtually no cross references. Thanks to sponsors and volunteers, we have nearly 40 tapes posted and the list is growing day by day. You can read the biographies of eminent Sayadaws and their works. Some of them are transcripts and/or translations of the Dhamma talks and recitals. Please read the color="#6F3400">FAQ section section for more information about eDhamma.

Message: Thanks for posting [my grandma] Daw Khin Myo Chit's article.
eDhamma: We feel that in addition to posting dhamma tapes on our web site, we should also publish articles in Burmese and English. The articles can be read while listening to the dhamma tapes.
20 Jan 2001; U Khin Maung Gyi; New Zealand
Message: Greetings from New Zealand. Thanks for taking such a heavy responsibility to propagate dhamma through Internet service. Although we Burmese brought tapes on sermons and meditations on leaving the country, yet we always felt that much more is needed to guide us in our daily existence. I am glad that eDhamma is now in place to fill that void. The only other thing that I wish to see (if it is not a burden), is the biography of the great Venerable 'Ledi' Sayadaw who was one of the leading lights of Buddhism in Burma from all aspects. Please keep up the good work. Sadhu, Sadhu, Sadhu.
eDhamma: We are delighted to learn that we are filling a void for dhamma listeners like you. Ledi Sayadaw's writings and teachings are revered not only by scholars but by practising yogis throughout the world. The Ledi Sayadaw's method of practising meditation has been disseminated via a chain of outstanding disciples such as color="#6F3400">Saya Thet, U Ba Khin and Mr. Goenka. We will try to publish Sayadaw's biography.

Message: Your website is fantastic, awesome and wonderful. Thank you for creating it and donating DHAMMA DANA. SADHU SADHU SADHU.
eDhamma: Thanks. Credit should go to the team of volunteers who spent long nights and weekend to make this website possible and to our sponsors who provided monetary and moral support. Our belief is that "Dhamma dana is the supreme gift". We complement other Theravada organizations and websites in propagating the sasana. For example, the Triple Gems Publication, made up of volunteers from US, UK and Singapore, coordinates the reprint of Theravada books (and booklets) for FREE distribution in these countries. Interested readers should contact the Secretariat: U Tin Htoon (US), Dr. Maung Maung Lwin (www.nibbana.com, UK) and Daw Emma Tin Tin Myint (Singapore).

Message: Thanks and mahasadhu to you all. I just came back from Yangon last week after doing dana to Shwe Oo Min Sayadaw, Sayadaw U Pandita, Sayadaw U Kundala, Tipitakadhara Sayadaw U Sumangala and other orphanages and even the christian institute for the blind. 21 of us from Penang, Malaysia went on this trip ages range from 18 to 86! We all had such a good time seeing such virtuous sayadaws especially Sayadaw U Kundala who is so inspiring. we have signed up for Sayadaw U Kundala's retreat in Malaysia also in December. Please tell people to go and practise vipassana as much as possible, and also please don't forget the less fortunate folks like the orphans. Our orphans here in Malaysia are well taken care of. But seeing those in Yangon recently really moved us greatly. As most overseas Burmese are doing quite well, a collective effort can do a lot for those less fortunate. Like what thich nhat hanh says - socially engaged buddhism. I had lived in bangkok for many years, and to see some monks becoming so rich and decadent and to see so many poor Thais - it is like what has gone wrong. So in whatever we do we must have wisdom otherwise there is no balance and dysfunctionality will set in and then what? Both will wilt and die. Anyway, keepup your good work, with much metta, hoon
eDhamma: Thanks for your message. Hope your group had a wonderful time doing dana and vipassana meditation.

The good knowledge of Sayadaw from our motherland in your website also helps me to understand Dhamma smoothly. If it is possible,i would like to learn more preachings of Thegon Sayadaw. Thanking you again, kyawthu

I also serve as a newsletter editor for a professional association related to my field of work, so I do have some experience that may be of some benefit to eDhamma. Also, my wife does design websites. She used to work as a designer and webmaster fulltime until the technology sector of the economy encountered a downturn. In a rural area such as where we live, that did not leave many opportunites, so she only designs and maintains sites on the side. If we can assist, please let us know.
eDhamma: Thanks for offering your expertise.
Message: I came to know that a fellow from Ceylon [Sri Lanka] went to Rangoon, Burma before 1958 and took a training in Mindfulness from Ven Mahasi Sayadaw and wrote a book on his experiences. I would like to know more detailed information on this. Thank you
eDhamma: There have been several laymen, monks, and nuns from several countries that studied under Mahasi Sayadaw. If we get more information about the Ceylonese meditator, we'll let you know.
Message: I found that Anapanassati Sutta by Thegone Sayadaw tape is not finished. Much appreciate to complete it.
eDhamma: Thanks for reporting the problem. We'll fix it.
Message: I am looking for an English translation of Venerable Mahasi Sayadaw's Pali introduction to the commentary on the Visuddhimagga Atthakatha. Do you know of this work in Pali or Burmese? It is mentioned in U Nyi Nyi's brief biography of the late venerable Sayadaw as written by him in 1957 to 1960. Can you tell me more about it at least? Maybe there is a Burmese translation? One error on your list of titles on the list of Dhamma Talks: The Four Novel Truths by Chanmyay Sayadaw should presumably be the Four Noble Truths. Just a detail. Keep up the good work. Check out my website too: www.aimwell.org
eDhamma: A list of Sayadaw's publications appears in the Golden Jubilee issue of Sasananugaha (the society that founded "Sasana Yeiktha" and made Sayadaw the Chief Abbot and Meditation Master). Sayadaw's works have been translated by U Nyi Nyi, U Ko Ko Lay, and several other authors. The translations also list Sayadaw's works. Feel free to report typos and errors.
Message: I'ld like to thank you for your website. Please let me report you one. I can't find the 2 and third of Ashin Nyanissara's Anapana. let me know if they are available. These are very important for meditation. Any how I would like to say thank you. If my report is upset to you, I do apologise you, and please forgive me. Your win. (I wish you all live with peace and calm)
eDhamma: There are donors who have given or lent us tapes, but most of them need to be processed before posting on the web site. Also, due to storage limitations, the web master has to choose 30+ tapes from the repository at periodic intervals to make them available for listening. Ashin Nyanissara's devotees have their own web site(s). They may have a more complete collection of Sayadaw's talks.

There are very few sayadaws in Myanmar and teachings are so great and very good interpretation of the buddhas dhamma but theirs teaching are not well known because lot of people did understand the truthfulness and some even dishonored. Can you do the research and include theirs teaching in edhamma for the benefit of mandkind?
