Myanmar (Burma) is home to more than 40 million Buddhists. More important, Myanmar is the land of 400,000 Theravada Buddhist monks engaged in pariyatti, paripatti and pariveda. Myanmar hosted the Fifth Buddhist Council in Mandalay during King Mindon's reign and Sixth Buddhist Council in Yangon (Rangoon) at the World Peace Pagoda (KabaAye) Cave from 1954 - 56.
At the Sixth Buddhist Council, the Venerable Mahasi Sayadaw acted as the Chief Questioner. Mingun Tipitaka Sayadaw not only acted as the Chief Reciter in Pali, but also gave expositions in Burmese. Several other Sayadaws, including Mahagandaryone Sayadaw, Chanmyay Sayadaw and Dhammananda Sayadaw, participated at the Sixth Buddhist Council in various capacities, most notably as editors/reviewers/translators of the Tipitaka texts, commentaries and subcommentaries.
Although we are far from home, we cherish Theravada Buddhism and we are committed to propagate sasana in every way possible. As our first project, we plan to post dhamma talks and recitals by the eminent Sayadaws (such as those mentioned above) in Burmese and English. We plan to publish the biographies of the Sayadaws and provide link to other Theravada websites such as Nibbana.com and Tbsa.org where articles by and on the Sayadaws can be found.
Buddhism is our greatest treasure. We believe that "Of all the gifts, the Dhamma dana is the supreme gift." We are determined to help distribute Dhamma material freely on the internet. Feel free to join us as volunteers and/or donors of expertise and resources.
